Do you often feel fatigued? Lack motivation? These are some of the many symptoms that may indicate a thyroid problem. The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located in the front of the neck which manufactures two main hormones: T4 and T3. These hormones are responsible for controlling our metabolic rate (the rate at which calories are burned), energy production and regulating our body temperature. Thyroid disorders are becoming increasingly common, particularly among women. By age 50, one in ten women has a thyroid condition. Thyroid conditions typically occur following childbirth, during menopause or after a stressful life event.
