Rid your body of heavy metals with these 5 foods
By Louise Belle BHSc (Nut Med)
Heavy metals enter your body through skin absorption, inhalation and ingestion and can accumulate in your body tissues, wreaking havoc and causing damage to your cells. We are exposed to heavy metals through deodorant, cookware, canned food, drinking water, gasoline, batteries, paint, old dental fillings, fish and farming- just to name a few. Heavy metal toxicity has been associated with neurological disorders, organ damage, cell mutation, hypertension and autoimmune disease. You really don’t want heavy metals to be flowing freely through your body. These 5 foods will help you to get rid of them:
1. Chlorella
This green pond scum is a type of algae that is rich in alkalinising chlorophyll, antioxidants and an abundance of vitamins and minerals. Chlorella can absorb heavy metals from the body, and aid in their detoxification.
2. Apples
Apples contain a fibre called pectin, which is extremely beneficial for digestive health. Apple pectin (and pectin found in other vegetables and fruits) have been found to chelate heavy metals (bind to them) for excretion.
3. Garlic
This sulphurous vegetable is a fantastic detoxifying food. It binds to heavy metals in the body and supports the pathways of the liver in removing heavy metals and other toxins. Fresh garlic is best used cut or crushed, and allowed to air for 5 minutes before eating.
4. Coriander
This herb is disliked by many, but it is actually a powerful detoxifying agent. Fresh coriander and its oil can help to draw out stored heavy metals from body tissues, in order to eliminate them from the body.
5. Chia seeds
These wonderful superfood seeds are not only rich in protein and omega 3, but are a great source of soluble fibre. Chia seeds/ chia meal (ground chia seeds) can absorb toxins and heavy metals in the body.
What else can you do?
- Feel the burn: Work it baby! Exercise gets your blood flowing and stimulates the elimination of toxins and heavy metals through your skin in the form of sweat. The more often you sweat, the more toxins you can eliminate.
- Drink up: Make sure you’re getting enough H20. Water supports your liver, kidneys and bowel in flushing out all those excess toxins. Aim for at least 2 litres of filtered water / herbal tea per day to support these detoxifying organs.
- Eat clean: Reduce or avoid intake of processed or packaged foods, avoid fish farmed in dirty waters and load up on fresh vegetables and fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes and lean proteins. Where you can, choose organic to reduce your exposure to pesticides and herbicides.
- Do a Cleanse: Doing a Cleanse can really help to reset your system and scrub out those toxins and heavy metals that are stored deep in your muscle and fat tissue. It can take about 15 days of doing a Cleanse to achieve deep detoxifcation.

Very interesting article. I was told years ago by a Toowoomba herbalist to let the apples go brown helps detox and to also crack rice like pop corn then cook it normally to carry poison from your system.
