Even a healthy person may benefit from a liver tonic

By Louise Belle BHSc (Nut Med)

It is common belief that liver supplements are only necessary if you take a lot of medication or have been diagnosed with liver inflammation or damage. Whilst these factors can certainly increase the need for liver support, even the average ‘healthy’ person can benefit from a little extra liver support.

Let me explain why! The liver has two detoxification pathways – phase one and two. The phase one pathway is responsible for breaking down toxins that enter the body (through the air, food and our skin) into small metabolites, or little pieces. The phase two pathway then has to convert these metabolites from fat-soluble into water soluble so that they can be excreted from the body through sweat, urine and bowel movements. In the majority of people, the phase one pathway works a lot faster than the phase two pathway. This means that the small toxic metabolites are floating freely throughout the body, causing inflammation and damage to body cells and tissues.

Our livers are the number one organ responsible for breaking down and removing toxins from our bodies. When you think about the sheer number of toxins, chemicals and heavy metals we come into contact with on a daily basis – herbicides and pesticides, artificial additives and preservatives, car fumes, air pollution, plastics, medications, scented sprays, alcohol, beauty and cleaning products, chemicals in the work environment and clothing dyes (just to name a few) –  it is no surprise that our livers can struggle to keep up! You can support your liver by taking a good quality liver tonic such as LivaTone Plus which contains herbs, vitamins and minerals that protect liver cells, reduce inflammation, and support healthy liver detoxification.

If you feel like you are in need of a full body detox, the Dr Cabot 15 Day Cleanse supports the liver, gut and immune system to give your whole body a cleanse.
